The Auction

Exquisite vintage quilts (19th Century, Amish, and folk art examples), confidential FDR WWII documents, and sizable collections from felt travel banners to antique wooden tennis racquets... this joyful unreserved sale has it all. Lalique crystal, Royal Copenhagen porcelain, art pottery, cloisonné, cookie jars, animaliere bronzes and original art - from famed cartoonists Milton Caniff and Ham Fisher to the work of American pop artist James Rizzi, on to lovely illustrations of Princess Diana’s gowns - Guernsey's holiday auction is just what the doctor ordered for these difficult times we’re living through.

The Auction contains a great Black movie poster collection (with images from the early days of film) along with posters of many other descriptions including unique hand-crafted graphics of mid-century Hollywood icons. Works on paper by B. Shahn, R. Gwathmey and P. Pearlstein are being sold along with meaningful ephemera relating to the lives of such notables as Robert Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson, Gerald Ford and Medgar Evers. Chelsea clocks and Waterbury barometers are just a sampling of fine brass instruments to be sold. There are German and Asian dolls, antique kimonos, vintage alligator bags, collectible Bottecchia racing and Peugeot bicycles, a “Booze Barometer” and Rube Goldberg Automatic Match Striker… but this is just a taste.
